Woll has had a very good showing in his limited action with the Leafs going 6-1-0 with 2.16GAA and a .932 save percentage in 7 games this past season. Through 11 career games, the 25-year-old is 9-2-0 with one shutout and a .924 save percentage. At this point, Woll has played well enough to earn the backup role and Leafs GM Brad Treliving believes that the job belongs to Woll as well.
"I think he's ready to grab a hold of a job here," said Treliving this week when speaking with the media.
Woll has a very good body of work even though it's a relatively small one. The Leafs also brought in Martin Jones on a one-year deal to provide them with some veteran experience and support in case of injury or if Woll struggles to be able to handle the rigors of an NHL schedule.
Woll is on a bargain of a contract for the next two seasons, making under $800K each season. This must also have been very enticing for the Leafs - even more so now that they know he can actually play - and play well.
