Leafs President Brendan Shanahan releases statement about the team parting ways with Kyle Dubas
After a few days of waiting, we finally got clarity on the Kyle Dubas situation in Toronto. Dubas will no longer be the Leafs' GM. It originally appeared to have been a decision led more by Dubas than anything as he initially stated he was going to talk to his family and decide whether he would return or take some time with his family. However, when the Leafs' official release came out, it had stated that the team decided to part ways with Dubas instead.
Following the news of the Leafs announcing Dubas wouldn't return, President Brendan Shanahan released a statement about the decision and Dubas' work the last 9 seasons.
"I would like to thank Kyle for his unwavering dedication over these last 9 seasons with the organization, including his last 5 as GM. Kyle fostered a great culture within our dressing room & staff, & consistently pushed to make our team better season over season. We wish Kyle and his family the best moving forward and thank him for his valuable contributions."
While Dubas won't return as GM and likely won't be found anywhere else in the league this season, there is always a chance that he returns to the organization when he is ready, in a new role with less pressure and stress on his family. However, it is far more likely that if he does pop up again, it will be with another franchise.
I'm sure we'll have more info on this when Shanahan speaks with the media in Toronto at 3pm ET today.
