Leafs announce a pair of roster transactions ahead of Saturday's clash with the Canucks
Prior to last night's Toronto Marlies game, it was announced that forward Bobby McMann was being held out of the line up for "recautionary reasons". At the time, many speculated it was likely due to the Maple Leafs having a trade in place and he was one of the pieces heading the other way.
On Saturday morning, the reason for McMann's healthy scratch became clear. The Leafs recalled McMann this morning and, in a corresponding move, they assigned Pontus Holmberg to the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
McMann was impressive in his 10 games with the Leafs last season before suffering an injury, even though he had just 1 assist. In 30 games with the Marlies last season, McMann had 21 goals and 29 points.
Through 6 games with the Marlies this season, the 27-year-old has 2 goals and 3 points. McMann not only adds size and some secondary scoring to the Leafs' bottom six, he also brings some speed and scoring touch.
Holmberg hadn't been re-inserted into the lineup at all after being recalled from the Marlies earlier this week. It remains unclear as to whether the Leafs will recall him for the upcoming trip to Sweden for the Global Series, or if it will be McMann who remains with the big club.
