Following the game, the Leafs announced another pair of roster cuts, sending defenseman Tommy Miller and goaltender Keith Petruzzelli down to the Toronto Marlies.
On Tuesday, the Leafs once again did not place anyone on waivers, saving those decisions for later this week. They did, however, cut another defenseman from the training camp roster, sending Spencer Sova back to the OHL's Erie Otters. The 19-year-old defenseman went undrafted in back-to-back drafts, but has impressed the Leafs' training and development staff with performance at summer development camp, the Traverse City prospects tournament and during his run at Leafs training camp.
There was some speculation over the weekend that Sova's experience with the Leafs over the last few months may end up resulting in an entry-level contract for the 6-foot-1, 190-pound defenseman. A contract has not yet been announced and there's no guarantee that one is coming, but I'd imagine that it's a real possibility, considering how long the team kept him up during training camp.
Sova posted 16 goals and 39 points with the Otters last season in the OHL. He'll look to build on that performance this year in Erie, where he'll wear the "C" for the first time in his OHL career.
