Former Leafs goaltender among two ex-Leafs on waivers on Tuesday
The waiver wire continues to churn on a daily basis as a slew of new potential waiver targets have been named on Tuesday as teams continue to cut players from their training camp rosters.
Once again, the Toronto Maple Leafs have not placed anyone on waivers today - not surprising after they made 27 roster cuts yesterday - but there are a few former members of the Blue and White who are available for the picking.
Goaltender Erik Kallgren has been placed on waivers by the New Jersey Devils and forward, Seth Griffith, has been placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers.
Kallgren joined the Toronto Maple Leafs in the spring of 2021 after he used his NHL opt out clause and signed a two-year, two-way contract. In 2021-22, Kallgren split time with both the Maple Leafs and the Toronto Marlies, compiling an 8-4-1 record with a 3.31 G.A.A and a .888 SV% for the big club. The following season he was needed with both
Matt Murray and
Ilya Samsonov on the mend and he went 3-2-4 with a .898 SV% and a 2.67 G.A.A.
He spent the majority of the season with the Marlies and then walked as a free agent in the summer, signing a one-year, two-way contract with the New Jersey Devils at the start of free agency.
Griffith was originally claimed on waivers ahead of the season opener in 2016 in large part because the AGM at the time, Mark Hunter, was very familiar with the forward. He played in 3 NHL games without a point before being placed on waivers again and being claimed by the Florida Panthers. The Panthers would waive him once more and he was claimed by the Leafs in January of 2017. Griffith finished the season strong by scoring 44 points in just 38 games for the Marlies. He wound up walking as a free agent not long after.
