Sheldon Keefe drops excellent quote about Max Domi following loss to Montreal
Max Domi has been welcomed by the fanbase in Toronto with open arms after signing a 1-year, $3M deal with the Leafs this summer. The fanbases in Dallas, Chicago, Carolina, Columbus, Montreal and Arizona, however, have seemingly always taken the approach of cautioning Leaf fans to "wait and see" what his game is all about.
Domi is a solid playmaker and definitely brings a certain energy and fervor to the teams he plays for, but what the Stars, Hawks, Canes, Jackets, Habs and Yotes fans were alluding to this summer was his penchant for taking ill-advised penalties, putting his team on the penalty kill just a little too often.
While some coaches may be frustrated working with such a player, Sheldon Keefe has taken a bit of a different point of view in how he sees Domi, whom he knows can be a very effective player in Toronto with all of the tools he brings.
That's probably the right stance for Keefe to take. Domi, as we all know, has a bit of a short fuse and may indeed send the Leafs to the PK more often than maybe they'd like, but with the team actually having a solid penalty kill, perhaps it won't matter as much as it did in some of Domi's other NHL cities. He brings an element that the Leafs don't actually have in large supply and there may actually be room for his antics here. Plus, if Keefe can dial him in like he thinks he can, this could be the start of a stellar partnership.
