Ahead of the Leafs' first game back from the Christmas break, defenseman Mac Hollowell has been recalled on an emergency basis.
Rasmus Sandin suffered a neck injury on December 20th against the Tampa Bay Lightning, landing him on the IR and not expected to return until after the holidays. Now back from the break, Sandin appeared to be skating today at practice but is not set to return against the Blues.
With Sandin out, Hollowell has been recalled for the fourth time since November 22nd. It's been a continuous cycle this season, as the Leafs have been flooded with injuries on the back end.
Hollowell is not expected to play, as the veteran Jordie Benn appears to be drawing in for the injured Sandin. Hollowell continues to await his 7th appearance this season. The young blueliner has 2 assists through the first 6 games of his NHL career - all of which have come this season.
