With the team in turmoil during games recently, there has been a welcome sight at Leafs practices. It may not always be a good thing when the front office is attending practice, but when the executive is Shane Doan on the ice, it doesn't feel like a bad thing.

Doan joined the team as a Special Advisor to GM Brad Treliving this summer and happens to have an excellent relationship with both Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies, due to the Arizona connection.

I have to say, it's cool to see the Leafs' Special Advisor to the GM be so in-touch with the players, and still able to rip around the ice taking shots.

According to David Alter, Doan has been in attendance at goalie's practices, helping the team's netminders sharpen their skills and showing off that he can still move pretty well in the process.

Coming off a brutal 6-4 loss to Buffalo with many parts of the team underperforming, today's practice will need to be one that gets through to the players. Perhaps that's part of Doan's presence, to lend credibility to the efforts of the coaching staff.
