Does anyone else find it funny that the Flames blocked Brad Treliving from speaking to other teams about vacant GM positions for more than a month but as soon as Kyle Dubas was let go by Brendan Shanahan, Treliving was granted permission to speak with other teams? Well that is the case now as the Leafs have been granted permission by the Flames to speak to their former GM.

The permission was granted on the basis that Treliving cannot participate in any discussions about the upcoming draft, which makes total sense and has been a standard in the NHL for a very long time. Treliving has quickly become one of the favourites to become the Leafs' next GM, given his experience and the fact that he is not afraid to shake up the core of a roster.

Should Treliving become the Leafs' GM, he will be thrown right into the fire and will have little to no time to sell Auston Matthews on his vision in the hopes of having him sign an extension and he will also have to sort out the 12 other UFAs and RFAs that need new contracts and take the temperature on William Nylander and Mitch Marner and make decisions on them prior to July 1st, when Nylander's modified NTC and Marner's full NMC kick in.
