The hockey world and Leafs Nation were in shock on Friday afternoon after Brendan Shanahan announced Kyle Dubas would not be returning as General Manager next season. From what we gathered during his press conference, it essentially came down to Shanahan not being willing to meet the last minute demands of Dubas, in combination with comments made by Dubas on Monday that planted seeds of doubt in Shanahan's mind. That is fair to an extent, but to, from what we know, not even go back with a counter offer and let the best GM the Leafs have had since Pat Quinn walk is ridiculous.
On TSN's Overdrive this afternoon, co-host Bryan Hayes blasted Shanahan and his "Shanaplan", saying that he is in his 9th year, going on his 4th GM and has one playoff round win. He continued by saying that Shanahan is lucky to still have a job.
