Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg has been out of the lineup for the last three games as he dealt with a lingering injury that has severely hampered his ability to play. The Leafs and Klingberg were hopeful that a new "aggressive" treatment would help him in his recovery and to manage the injury better. Unfortunately that has not been the case.

Klingberg has not practiced aside from 10 minutes last Saturday and missed today's practice as well. Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe had announced yesterday that he would not be playing in either game this weekend and now it appears that Klingberg won't be playing for quite some time - maybe ever again.

The Leafs announced this afternoon that Klingberg was placed on LTIR, meaning that he has to miss at least 10 games and 24 days before being eligible to return to the lineup. From what we know, however, it would appear that he is likely done for the season. With Klingberg on LTIR, the Leafs have the cap space to activate Conor Timmins and also had enough room to recall forward Alex Steeves from the Marlies as well. Steeves was certainly deserving of the recall, after posting points in 11-straight games for the Marlies.

Klingberg, the former fifth-round pick, signed a 1-year, $4.15M deal with the Leafs this off-season when free agency opened in July 1st. In 633 career games with the Leafs, Ducks, Stars and Wild, he has registered 81 goals and 412 points to go along with 255 penalty minutes.
