Granted, the Leafs eventually sent Minten back to his junior club, the Kamloops Blazers after he had failed to produce a point across 4 games with the big club, but it wasn't as much a reflection of poor performance as it was just not being quite ready for the NHL just yet. By all accounts, the skills he had showcased during his time with the Leafs point to him being a very promising young center prospect. The fact that he had formed some chemistry with Matthew Knies didn't hurt either.
Minten has now been back with the Blazers for 7 games, his 7th game occurring last night when Kamloops hosted fellow Leafs prospect Noah Chadwick and the Lethbridge Hurricanes. While the Blazers were blown out 7-3 by the Hurricanes, Minten himself put up a monster game, tallying 2 goals and adding 1 assist in the loss. Chadwick also had 2 assists for Lethbridge.
With his 3-point night, Minten now has 10 points (3G, 7A) in his 7 games this season. The Blazers' new captain is not only excelling following his return to the WHL, he's also potentially putting himself on the map for Team Canada for the upcoming World Junior Championship Tournament.
Earlier this week, a pair of prominent writers in Corey Pronman and Scott Wheeler both identified Minten as a player who should make Team Canada. Now, it's up to him to continue to play well to make the decision for the selection crew an easy one.
