We know the Leafs will have a significant amount of LTIR relief to begin the season due to injuries to Jake Muzzin, Matt Murray and Conor Timmins - however, it's worth mentioning that unlike Muzzin and Murray, Timmins will be back this year, albeit not until November or December.
Leaf fans should be aware of the fact that the team may need to use a few paper transactions to ensure cap compliance, so if someone like Matthew Knies is assigned to the Marlies at some point today, don't panic. He'll likely be back up with the team within a day or two, as The Leafs Nation's Nick Richard pointed out on Sunday.
Knies is expected to be a major player for the Leafs in his rookie season. We saw first hand what he could do at the NHL level in a 3-game trial at the end of the 2022-23 season and in a brief 7-game look in the playoffs. Now, with a full training camp under his belt and more familiarity with the system, Knies is primed to do some damage in 2023-24.
