President Brendan Shanahan addressed the media on Friday, revealing that the talks between he and Dubas fell apart following Monday's season-ending press conference when Dubas left doubts in his mind with some of the comments he had made. The issues only intensified when Dubas and his agent pushed for more money at the 11th hour, according to Shanahan.
In the end, the Leafs' President felt as though a change in direction is what is best for the organization and so Dubas was let go. Now, in the meantime, someone will have to be at the helm. On Friday evening, Frank Seravalli revealed who that someone will be.
Per Seravalli, Leafs assistant GM Brandon Pridham has stepped into the role of interim GM in Toronto. Seravalli revealed that the Leafs have put out word to all 31 opposing teams that Pridham is the guy to talk to about any "personnel discussions".
Pridham rose to fame in Toronto with his shrewd manipulation of the salary cap. He was praised by former GM Kyle Dubas on a number of occasions for the work he had done behind the scenes to make all the pieces fit. Shanahan did not rule out Pridham as a potential candidate for the full-time gig during his presser this afternoon, but did indicate that a GM with experience would be "an attractive quality". We'll have to wait and see how this all develops in the coming weeks.
