The waiver wire introduced three players earlier today in Zach Sanford from the Nashville Predators, Magnus Hellberg of the Seattle Kraken, and a returnee in Wayne Simmonds of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Simmonds has had a rough season so-to-speak as he entered the 2022-23 campaign on the block with the Maple Leafs announcing that they would prefer to trade him rather than sending him down the minors. Not finding a trade partner, he was waived on the 9th of October. He cleared waivers and instead of reporting to the Toronto Marlies, he remained with the big club and continued training with the rest of his teammates, before being "called up" a week later.

He has only appeared in 4 games this season, recording an assist, even plus/minus rating, 2 PIMs, 3 shots on goal and a career low 7:29 ATOI. Perhaps the 34-year-old veteran gets claimed by the Philadelphia Flyers this time around as they are currently without 6 forwards after Travis Konecny and Scott Laughton just joined their lengthy injury list.

Other than his former team in Philadelphia, it seems like the same fate of not being claimed may take place yet again. Not many teams around the NHL are going to be lining up for a veteran who doesn't necessarily bring too many intangibles other than leadership and some sandpaper in limited ice-time.
