As we saw a number of missed calls during the Leafs and Wings game last night, there was also one of the most blatant cheap shots delivered in the Canucks/Lightning game, which showed that there may be a bit of an epidemic right now with NHL officials not doing the jobs they were hired to do.

The incident in occured in the final minute of the game. With the Canucks pressing, and down by a goal, Conor Garland went to the net looking for a rebound. After the whistle, Mikhail Sergachev pulled Garland aside, pulling off his helmet. Sergachev and Garland appear to separate before Sergachev decides to deliver a gloved cheap shot right to Garland's face.

The incident happened directly in front of the official, but magically, Sergachev escaped without any discipline. Not only that, but had a penalty been called there, the Canucks would have gone on the powerplay in the final minute with a chance to tie the game at five. Instead, the game ended 5-4 for the Lightning because of another blown call.

Is anyone else surprised that the Lightning were the beneficiaries of another non-call? Shades of the Leafs/Lightning playoff series all over again..
