Giordano took a substantial discount to remain in Toronto, as some models had the veteran blueliner projecting to make anywhere between $3.5M and $5+M on the open market this summer. In the end, he chose to take a massive pay cut to allow the Leafs to spend additional money elsewhere.
"I'm definitely blessed to have had the career I've had so far and be in a position financially where I'm in a good spot. I wasn't worried about hard negotiating or anything like that. At the end of the day I want to be here," said Giordano on Monday, also identifying the Leafs as what he believes are a true contender. "I believe in this team."
Giordano also joked about the fact that he actually had a home in Toronto, stating that he had sold it 2 or 3 years back and wished now that he hadn't. The veteran blueliner revealed that now he and his family will turn their attention to house hunting during the offseason.
