It's Friday night, folks - so I know we're all up late. This one is a big one.. the Calgary Flames have reportedly traded Matthew Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers, believe it or not. This is a wild one, considering I don't think ANYONE had Florida as one of his most likely destinations.

WOW.. I got one paragraph into this thing before Blues rink-side reporter Andy Strickland has reported that Tkachuk has signed an 8-year extension with the Panthers worth a reported $76M ($9.5M AAV).

The reported return for the Flames in the deal is F Jonathan Huberdeau, D MacKenzie Weegar, prospect Cole Schwindt and a 2025 1st round pick (lottery protected), according to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli. The Florida Panthers also get a 4th round pick in the deal.

How's that for a mammoth of a blockbuster deal to kick off the weekend? There's a lot to unpack there, and I assume we'll have an update on how it all came together at some point tomorrow - but man, oh man.. talk about a culture change in both Florida AND Calgary. I suppose this means the Flames may re-tool rather than re-build.
