Just a few short weeks ago, the Leafs stopped in Vegas to take on the Golden Knights and were dominated from start to finish. They were slow, disorganized and appeared disinterested in the game. That was the start of a miserable Western trip as the Leafs went 1-2-2. Since then, the Leafs have won three straight, including beating the Canes and Bruins in a back-to-back over the weekend.

When asked about taking on Vegas tonight at Scotiabank Arena, Auston Matthews said the Leafs have made a lot of progress since that first meeting with Vegas. At the time of their first meeting, Matthews said the Leafs were still in the process of figure out how to play with each other. While his line remained the same over the summer and to begin the season, the Leafs were still trying to figure out the best mix of their bottom six - which they seem to have done now. They're also playing much better defensively.

The Buds should be much more prepared for Vegas tonight and will have to be much better defensively to protect Erik Kallgren from the shell-shock that Ilya Samsonov faced in their first meeting, which could have easily been a 5-1 or 6-1 game in Vegas' favour with the way they were playing.
