Milan Lucic speaks about the Mike Smith hit that got him ejected and drops a bombshell quote
Edmonton Oilers fans are livid after the NHL's Department of Player Safety elected not to hand out some supplemental discipline to Calgary's Milan Lucic following a play in Game 3 where he appeared to run Oilers goaltender Mike Smith into the end boards behind the Oilers' net on Sunday.
The play from a single angle at full speed looked much worse than the play actually was. This video with multiple angles shows that Lucic attempted to stop up to avoid a hit, but could not avoid the bump that earned him a 5-minute major for charging and a game misconduct.
Following the game, Flames head coach Darryl Sutter stated in his post game presser that there was nothing really there for the league to act on, stating that we all know what would have happened if Lucic did charge Smith instead of holding back - a sentiment that Lucic himself echoed.
"I definitely wasn't trying to hit him, I was braking... ...if I did charge, we both wouldn't be playing tomorrow"

How many times have we seen Milan Lucic absolutely blow someone up in his NHL career? I tend to agree with him that had he really wanted to inflict some damage, Smith would have been laid out and Lucic would have been serving a lengthy suspension as a result.
