Moments ago the Canucks announced that they have signed Miller to a massive extension. Miller's new deal is for 7 years and is worth $56M, an AAV of $8M per season. It's good news for the Canucks and their fans as Miller is a type of forward that is hard to come by. A power forward that can kill penalties and contribute in all areas offensively, Miller adds an element to the Canuck that many teams look for, which is why he was highly coveted by other teams around the league.
Coming off of a 99-point point season where he set a career high in points and goals with 32, Miller was entering the final year of a deal that paid him just $5.25M per season. At 6'1 and 218 pounds, Miller provides the Canucks with a physical, net-front presence that creates space for players like Bo Horvat and Elias Pettersson to be as creative as they can be.
The deal will keep Miller in Vancouver until he is 36, but the deal will likely look less than team friendly about half way through given his play style. Either way, it was an important piece of business to take care of for Vancouver and now Miller can just focus on hockey this upcoming season instead of answering the daily questions about his contract.
