The Leafs have some big decisions ahead this summer, not the least of which is what to do about the current goaltending situation. Jack Campbell is a pending UFA who is free to negotiate with other NHL teams as of July 13th, though the 30-year-old has already expressed his desire to remain in Toronto. Petr Mrazek has two years remaining at $3.8M per season and had an absolutely disastrous 2021-22 season, so there are a lot of questions marks in the crease for the Leafs this offseason.

There is a lot of speculation surrounding the Leafs looking to move on from Mrazek and his $3.8M AAV, which means that they'll almost certainly be looking to retain the services of Campbell. The question is, how much is it going to cost Leafs GM Kyle Dubas?

Well, according to TSN's Chris Johnston, Campbell could be in line for a sizable contract this summer, despite a very rocky second half of the season and yet another first round elimination.

"Campbell finished with strong enough numbers to argue for at least $5-million per year on his next contract after seeing Cal Petersen, Juuse Saros, Linus Ullmark and Elvis Merzlikins sign medium-term deals in that range over the past 12 months."

If Soup really does wish to remain in Toronto to try to compete for a Stanley Cup with the Leafs, perhaps he would be willing to leave some money on the table in order to provide the club with a bit of extra financial flexibility, something we saw Morgan Rielly do back in October.

Of the names of comparables listed above, Linus Ullmark has career stats quite similar to Campbell's. Ullmark signed a 4-year, $20M with the Boston Bruins last summer. The one argument here is that he is both younger and possesses more NHL experience than Campbell, albeit not much more. Can Dubas and company use the Ullmark deal to negotiate a contract for Campbell that carries an AAV lower than $5? We'll have our answer in a few short months.
