A few months ago, Sheldon Keefe was irate at the officiating of Wes McCauley in a game against St. Louis. McCauley missed two obvious penalties that could have cost the Leafs the game. The first was a pick on Jordie Benn that led to the typing goal by Jordan Kyrou. The pick was the exact same play that Wes McCauley called on Justin Holl in game 7 of last year's playoffs. The second missed call was a blatant high stick in the dying minutes of the game. Zach-Aston-Reese required stitches to repair the damage to his face and the Leafs missed out on a 4-minute power play that would have carried over into overtime. For his actions and comments on the bench, Keefe was fined $25K.

Saturday night, San Jose bench boss David Quinn was ejected just over five minutes into the third period of their game against Washington after he voiced his displeasure with the officiating. Quinn was upset with officials after they called Kevin Labanc for "clipping", a penalty that is very rarely called. The Sharks lost the game handily 8-3. Following the game, Quinn spoke to reporters and admitted he was "embarrassed and shouldn't have acted like that as a coach."

Four days later and it appears that Quinn will not be facing and supplemental discipline for his tirade on the bench, but yet, less than 24 hours after Keefe, who was less incensed than Quinn and wasn't ejected, was fined for his actions. If Keefe wasn't thrown out, but was fined, shouldn't Quinn have been fined more for being thrown out as clearly his antics were much worse than Keefe's? Once again, the NHL is showing its anti-Leafs bias.

***Update - the NHL must have seen this article, because mere hours after it dropped, Quinn has finally been fined $25K***
