You know how every other fan base always says the Leafs get too much media coverage or that Leaf fans are the most annoying? Well, did they ever think it's because of their own doing?

Last night during the World Juniors gold medal game, Oilers fans decided to make the game about the Leafs. During a TV timeout, a fan wearing an Auston Matthews jersey was seen on the jumbotron. Oilers fans began by booing him and then started chanting "Matthews sucks" in unison. The fan was just there to watch the game, wearing a jersey that had a maple leaf on it, the same way the Team Canada jerseys do, you know? It's not like he asked for any of it, but of course, Oilers fans had to make it all about themselves and the Leafs. From that, Matthews and the Leafs began trending on Twitter.

It's always great when the Leafs do absolutely nothing to be brought up and then start trending on social media. I have to ask Oilers fans though, "Matthews sucks" chants after he won both MVP awards and the Rocket Richard, really? No need to be so sour that Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl won nothing.
