With the season inching closer by the day, the Edmonton Oilers are still almost $6.9M over the salary cap. Sure, the club has some LTIR relief coming with Mike Smith and Oscar Klefbom combining for more than $6.3M coming off the books, but the team will still be over the cap with 21/23 players rostered and RFA forward Ryan McLeod still in need of a contract. Plain and simple, there's a move coming.

The Oilers have a number of potential trade candidates, but if they want to clear some real cap space and re-gain some flexibility, there's one trade candidate who stands out above all the others. Former 4th overall pick Jesse Puljujarvi.

The rumour mill is swirling and the most recent word out of Edmonton is that Puljujarvi is indeed the candidate most likely to be moved. The other rumour is that the Oilers and McLeod may already have a deal on the table, pending a move to clear the space.

I know - total shocker. Team who has been trying to move Puljujarvi wants to move Puljujarvi. Well, hey - the season is right around the corner and the late offseason news is almost in the rearview!
