The 13-year NHL veteran is reportedly considering something that's a little more outside the box, which is foregoing an NHL contract to sign in another pro league, presumably in Europe.
If Subban does elect to sign a deal in a European league, it will still allow him the opportunity to sign with another NHL team at the conclusion of his season. However, Subban would also be free to negotiate an NHL out clause in his contract that would allow him to leave anytime he wished to pursue an NHL deal.
I still think there's an NHL deal out there somewhere for Subban. This simply might be a negotiating tactic to force an interested party's hand to either push a deal over the finish line or to increase his salary on a new deal. The next few weeks are going to be interesting.
