They have added to their roster in free agency, re-signed some of their young RFA's.
Now, per a report, the club has announced that General Manager Jim Nill has been given a contract extension that will expire after the 2023-2024 season.
Nill has been a hockey executive since 1994. After spending a remarkable 24 years with the Red Wings organization, he joined the Stars in 2013 and has been the General Manager ever since.
The Hanna, Alberta native has built a Stars team that has gone 356-259-84 with him at the helm, with five playoff appearances and one trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020.
Last season, the Stars finished with a record of 46-30-6, good for 4th in the Central division and a playoff birth, but ultimately got knocked out by Calgary after a hard-fought first round series.
Nill has no doubt made some decisions as General Manager that haven't aged the best, such as the Tyler Seguin or Jamie Benn contracts, but over his tenure he has been able to construct a good roster.
With young players that he has drafted and developed, such as Roope Hintz, Miro Heiskanen, Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger, the club looks to have a bright future, and the organization wants Nill to direct that future for at least another two seasons.
It's a bit curious that Nill's extension has been announced before signing RFA forward Jason Robertson. Is there a chance that a deal could be close?
