It is well known that both Claude Giroux and Marc-Andre Fleury are currently on the trade block. According to Chris Johnston, Colorado has an interest in two of the biggest fish heading into the March 21st trade deadline. The Avs' interest in the two varies and it would be hard to add both players due to Colorado's cap situation, but if they can move some money, they may be able to make the pieces fit with some retention.
Giroux would be a great fit on the Avalanche. A versatile forward that can play both center and on the wing, Giroux has put up 36 points in 43 games on a struggling Flyers team. The Flyers captain could fit in many different roles with the Avalanche. If they chose to use him on the wing - he would complement both Nathan Mackinnon and Nazem Kadri exceptionally well. His ability to play center also would provide good value to the Avs because of Nathan MacKinnon's injury troubles this season.
Meanwhile, Fleury is having a good season in 2022 despite playing for a weak Chicago team. He has a 15-16-3 record but has posted 3 shutouts and a .910 save percentage. Having a goalie as good as Fleury, who has won 3 Stanley Cups and at 37-years-old is still one of the best goalies in hockey benefits a team. The Avs need to ask themselves if Fleury is worth trading for. If they believe he is a key piece for a Cup run, they'll at least look at it.
Darcy Kuemper, who they traded a first round pick for in the summer is having a good season despite a slow start. In the backup position, since returning from injury, Pavel Francouz has been lights out for Colorado. When healthy, goaltending has been a strong suit for the Avs and Fleury may not make as much sense for them. Giroux certainly does.
Although it's likely the Avs won't be able to land both players. This report shows that the Colorado Avalanche are looking to make waves next month.
