The Leafs have long been rumoured to be interested in shorting up their blueline, particularly on the right side. A report that has surface on Saturday confirmed that the Leafs are indeed actively pursuing a top-4 defenseman, despite comments made by GM Kyle Dubas last week that the team is holding off on making a deal to see their lineup at full health.

Per The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Leafs are shopping around for a defender, and that rumours that they may use one of Timothy Liljegren or Rasmus Sandin to acquire one are premature. The name Pagnotta mentioned is that of Travis Dermott who is being dangled in front of teams.

Dermott is still a relatively young asset at 25 years of age, and is signed at a very reasonable $1.5M for the remainder of this season and all of next season. The Newmarket, ON native has 241 games of NHL experience and can play both the left and right side.

Pagnotta also confirms that the Leafs have been linked to Ben Chiarot (MON), Josh Manson (ANA) and Calvin de Haan (CHI) "among others".
