Last night during the Leafs' 4-1 loss against the Vancouver Canucks, Ryan O'Reilly left the game late in the second period with a hand injury after being hit by a shot from Auston Matthews.

O'Reilly was in obvious discomfort following the play and did not return to the game for the third period. During the Leafs' post-game media availability, this was what Sheldon Keefe and Auston Matthews had to say about the situation:

Despite an unfortunate injury and not the most promising update from Keefe, O'Reilly was seen late Saturday night with a finger in a splint before the team departed from Vancouver.

"O'Reilly's left 2nd finger in a splint

Can be used for a multitude of reasons but yesterday I only touched on fracture. He could also have a tendon and/or ligament injury

MRI next to assess his finger tendons and ligaments and then determine if he needs surgery or not."

Of course, there's no way of knowing the severity of O'Reilly's injury until the Leafs provide an official update, which we'll likely get tomorrow following their practice. O'Reilly is currently listed as day-to-day instead of IR, which could mean a low-grade injury. Ideally, the damage is not as severe as it could be, and we'll see ROR buzzin' with the Buds again later this week. We'll just have to wait and see.
