A veteran of 1,019 NHL games and, to this point, 0 AHL games, Wayne Simmonds was placed on waivers on Sunday and cleared on Monday after failing to make the Leafs' roster. Prior to placing Simmonds on waivers, the Leafs made it known to the league that they would like to find him a place to continue his career. So far though, that hasn't happened.

However, Simmonds is not present at this morning's Marlies practice, which could indicate one of two things: a trade is imminent or he is contemplating retirement. Whichever occurs with Simmonds, it will help the Leafs get below the 50 contract limit, which they are currently at.

Simmonds has 1 year left on his current deal and in his brief stint in Toronto, he amassed 12 goals, 25 points and 151 penalty minutes. Not only is he a first-class teammate on the ice, but off the ice as well and regardless of what happens with his career we wish him all the best.
