It might shock you to learn this, but with just these 2 NHL signings, the Leafs currently have just $443K in cap space, which becomes a hair over $6M when you factor in Jake Muzzin's LTIR space. That amount can increase to nearly $11M if the team was to move Matt Murray's contract, which remains likely to move.
One of the big concerns here, when it comes to the Leafs' current cap picture, is the fact the team still needs to sign goaltender Ilya Samsonov to a new contract, which should eat up somewhere close to $4M in their available space. In addition, the Leafs watched a combined 79 goals walk out the door this summer and has only brought in a combined 15 goals yesterday.
All of this points to one fact; the Leafs aren't done. There are not only more UFA signings to come, as the Leafs remain engaged in talks with Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi, but there are trades on the horizon as well.
We know from all of the reports from all of the big insiders that Brad Treliving is a guy who likes to be in on almost everything, which means that he likes to keep his options open. On top of the aforementioned Murray likely to be jettisoned in Toronto, we're also likely to see at least one defenseman moved as Treliving had already indicated that he'd like to re-vamp the Leafs' blueline this summer. In addition, we could yet see a trade involving star winger William Nylander, whose rumoured ask exceeds the $10M threshold. The Leafs are reported to be pushing for an AAV that starts with an 8.
Brace yourselves, Leafs Nation - there are more moves on the way.
