Thanks to their recent slide, the Leafs now hold just a 1-point lead over Detroit and Tampa for 3rd in the Atlantic Division and are at risk of sliding down into a Wild Card spot or out of the playoff picture entirely if they can't turn this around in a real hurry. The one silver-lining is that the Leafs still have games in hand over Tampa and Detroit, so hope is not lost just yet, and there's time for them to build a bit of a cushion.
Amid their current 3-game losing skid, there's a rumour going around that Sheldon Keefe is on thin ice in Toronto. In fact, one rumour suggests that the brass in Toronto is having a meeting to determine whether or not Sheldon Keefe will remain behind the bench in Toronto. If the rumour rings true, Keefe may be out this week.
The source of the rumour is not your typical insider, so we should take this with a huge grain of salt, but with how inconsistent the Leafs have been this year with the same core and much of the same blueliners, there is some belief out here that Keefe has lost the room, so would it be that outlandish to suggest that the Leafs could be pondering a change behind the bench? It doesn't seem far-fetched.
With the likes of Craig Berube still available, the Leafs do have options available to them if they feel as though Keefe has worn out his welcome in Toronto. Having said that, his points percentage is very strong in the regular season and he did coach the Leafs to their first playoff round win in nearly two decades last season. We'll have to just wait and see where this one goes.
