Ryan O'Reilly shares hilarious quote about playing with Mitch Marner, reveals a message he got from Leafs legend, Darcy Tucker
When news of the Leafs acquiring Ryan O'Reilly broke, former Leaf and fan favourite Darcy Tucker shared a photo of William Nylander and Ryan O'Reilly and captioned it "All my kids are back in Toronto, unfortunately the basement isn't available." O'Reilly lived with Tucker during his rookie season in Colorado and said that he spoke with Tucker following the trade. When asked what Tucker said about playing in Toronto, O'Reilly said, "He says I'll absolutely love it here. We know he loves it here & all the things he's done for the city. We have great conversations. I can remember the crazy Tucks eyes that he'd have when you turned on the TV to watch the Leafs."
Speaking of the trade, it took a week since arriving, but yesterday Ryan O'Reilly took part in his first full practice as a Leaf. Following practice, O'Reilly was asked about the Leafs' unique practice setup where they use three pads and have music playing.
"I was a little more nervous for the practice than I was the 1st game," said O'Reilly of his first practice. "It's nice especially for me, not the greatest skater, so I can feel a little faster with less snow out there," he continued when asked about having multiple rinks available and ended by saying the music gave him a "little pep in his step."
Coming off of a hat-trick against Buffalo where he, Mitch Marner and John Tavares combined for 9 points in their first two shifts and 13 points in total on the evening, O'Reilly was asked about playing with Marner. O'Reilly shared a comical quote about Marner saying, "Last game, you could have put a PeeWee kid on his line & [the kid] probably would've had a hat trick. He's just incredible. His processing ability with the vision is just next level."
It's safe to say that O'Reilly is fitting right in with his new teammates and has injected some good energy into the room and on the bench. The fact that he's also been very productive, recording 5 points in his 3 games as a Leaf, is the icing on the cake.
