With the decision of the NHL's Department of Player Safety looming on whether or not Edmonton Oilers winger Evander Kane will be suspended for his dangerous hit from behind on Colorado Avalanche center Nazem Kadri, TSN's Darren Dreger had a bit of an update on Kadri on Sunday.

Per Dreger, the extent of Kadri's injury is still unknown, but he will be undergoing some tests on Monday that should give the Avs a clearer picture on what to expect. The bad news here is that Dreger also revealed that surgery is a possibility.

If Kadri is forced to undergo surgery, his playoffs are likely over, which is very unfortunate for the London, Ontario native. He had been, for the most part, keeping his nose clean in the postseason and enjoying a successful postseason and the deepest run he's had in his NHL career. He is currently also tied for 11th in playoff points.

Just an overall tough break for Kadri here on a play that never should have happened. If Kane doesn't get multiple games for the hit, I'll be speechless. It was a dirty play that does not belong in the game and now it may cost one of the Avs' most important pieces a chance to be on the ice with his teammates if they are lucky enough to hoist the cup in a couple short weeks.
