Tavares ends the drought with OT winner in Game 6 to eliminate Tampa
John Tavares ended the New York Islanders' losing streak not long ago and tonight he ended the Leafs' 19-year second round absence. Tavares had not scored since a hat-trick in Game 2, but stepped up when the team needed him most. OT in Game 6.
Tavares curled out from behind the Tampa net and let go of a wrister that bounced off of Darren Raddysh's skate and trickled past Andrei Vasilevskiy. The goal came just 4 minutes into the extra frame and is the third game in a row the Leafs won in overtime at Amalie Arena in Tampa.
Now that the monkey is off their backs, it will be interesting to see what kind of damage this team can do in the East. They currently await the conclusion of the Boston/Florida series to determine who their 2nd round opponent will be.
