Mrazek is owed $4.2M and $4.4M, respecively, over the next two seasons, but carries a cap hit of just $3.8M. A buyout appears to be an unlikely option, as it would leave the Leafs with dead cap space over a 4-year period. Should the Buds wish to go the buyout route with Mrazek and save themselves a pick, prospect or both, it would cost them $1.03M in year one, $800K in year two, and $1.43M in years three and four.
If the Hawks do take on Mrazek's deal, they're potentially looking at a pospect like Nick Abruzzese or potentially even a guy like Nick Robertson. Now, there's no guarantees that that's what they'll get, but that's likely where the ask starts.
In terms of what the Leafs get back, it's really anyone's guess. It could be anywhere between a late round pick and a prospect that is not likely to see the light of day.
Another alternative here could be that the Leafs find a team who has another problem contract in a similar salary range with 1 less year on his deal and try to make a swap that way. However, with the Blackhawks almost certainly embarking on a rebuild, they could be the Leafs' best option with whom to bargain.
