The price-tag of one Leafs trade target set astronomically high; it's unlikely they'll pursue the deal further

A long-time target for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Scott Laughton is going to be very tough to pry out of Philadelphia as they have seemingly set the price for the veteran centre astronomically high.

It was reported by Frank Seravalli that the St. Louis Blues offered either pick 25 or 29 in this year's draft as well as a future second rounder for Laughton and the Flyers rejected it. Doug Armstrong has been enamoured with Laughton for some time and liked what he saw from the veteran during this year's rendition of the World Championships.

It sounds like the Flyers are having a fire sale but these rumours need to be taken with a grain of salt. Kevin Hayes, Tony DeAngelo and Travis Sanheim can be had and for some of them, they can be had a reduced cost.

As for players like Laughton, Travis Konecny, and Carter Hart, the Flyers are in absolutely no rush to move them, unless their hard bargaining drives the price so high they have no choice but to accept a deal.

Laughton is a key part of that team and could very well be named their next captain. The Flyers were without a captain this past season for the first time since 1992-93 and just the second time in franchise history as John Tortorella was in no rush to name a new one, however Laughton is atop the shortlist for whenever they make that decision.

It makes sense why so many teams want Laughton and it only gets better considering he's still signed for 3 more years at a low cap hit of $3 million AAV. He would fit in like glove for the Toronto Maple Leafs, a team who desperately needs centers and middle six depth.

Many suspect the Leafs have already perused the market for Laughton by offering their 28th overall pick. However with Daniel Briere looking to add a second rounder this year, it seems unlikely the Leafs can pull of a deal considering they don't have one until 2027.
