Trevor Zegras taking some serious heat for what he said to Troy Stecher on the ice on Saturday
Last night, things got heated during the Ducks' OT win over the Coyotes when Trevor Zegras and Troy Stecher went after one another in a post-whistle scrum. Normally, the post-whistle skirmishes are brief, but this prolonged exchange between Zegras and Stecher was a pretty good indicator that something beyond general chirping had occurred.
In the video above, you can see Zegras say something directed at Stecher, which sparks a reaction. Although it's unclear what exactly Zegras said, there's been some speculation about what could've set Stecher off the way it did. Some claim that Zegras spoke about a very personal matter, which caused such a reaction from Stecher.
The death of someone's relative, especially a parent, should never be used against them. It's inhumane. Stecher's father passed away in 2020, just before the Vancouver Canucks, his team at the time, embarked on their playoff run in the bubble.
Although we may never know what Zegras actually said, if he did mention Stecher's father, he could understandably lose a lot of respect from fans and his peers. It's an unnecessary comment to make and, if true, is not a good look for Zegras whatsoever. I'd imagine that a public apology is not too far off if this is indeed what had occurred in the heat of the moment.
