Mitch Marner and William Nylander have started this season off hot. Marner is one game away from tying the Leafs franchise record for longest point streak after extending his streak to 17 games in Toronto's 4-2 win over Detroit last night. Marner's goal last night solidified his top spot as Leafs point leader with 28. Meanwhile, Nylander is leading the Leafs in goals, currently sitting with 13 so far this season. They've both been on fire, but interestingly enough, both are at the top of a league-wide stat.
When looking at this stat, it is important to consider how Marner and Nylander have both been the subject of much criticism over the years, with the Leafs' fanbase wanting them to be traded at one point or another. Both players have been the portrait of consistency this season, despite being separated from their primary centermen and swapped on the team's 1st and 2nd line.
Not to say these hot streaks for either player will last forever, but they sure are promising. The line changes of pairing Marner with John Tavares and Nylander with Auston Matthews are proving to be successful, and they have the potential to continue being successful.
