The 2023-24 season will be an important one for the Maple Leafs. After nearly two decades of disappointment, the Buds finally broke through and won a playoff round last season. Now, with a new supporting cast surrounding their core, the Leafs are hoping for an even longer postseason run and a chance to snap the longest active Stanley Cup drought in the NHL, which currently sits at 56 years.

Before we arrive at the start of the regular season, the Leafs still have to endure a few weeks of training camp and even before that, a pair of Maple Leafs plan to get their feet wet in a charity event in support of the new Peel Memorial Hospital. Captain John Tavares and defenseman Mark Giordano are slated to participate in "Hockey Night in Brampton" tomorrow night at the CAA Centre. Tavares spoke about the event earlier this week.

"I'm thrilled to be participating in Mayor Brown's charity hockey game in Brampton benefiting a second hospital. Having kids of my own puts health care into perspective and how important it is to have access to it when needed. I'm really thankful and fortunate to be able to help give back and help raise funds to provide more access to health care."

Tavares also expressed his excitement to head back to Brampton, a city that he had grown fond of during his junior hockey days.

"I have a lot of memories growing up playing hockey in Brampton, specifically when I was in junior hockey in the OHL, coming in to play the Battalion because it was so close to home and where I grew up in Oakville. Really good memories."

Fellow NHLers Sean Monahan (MON), Owen Power (BUF) and Team Canada Olympians Brianne Jenner, Renata Fast and Tessa Bonhomme are also expected to participate in the event.

Giordano is coming into his last season as a Maple Leaf and, in his 40-year-old season, quite possibly the last of his lengthy NHL career. Meanwhile, Tavares has 2 years remaining on his current deal, which carries a lofty $11M cap hit.
