A few weeks ago, the Boston Bruins came under fire for offering an entry-level contract to Mitchell Miller, the Arizona Coyotes draft pick who was denounced after his past of bullying and racism came to light. Following significant public outrage, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced that Miller would not be eligible to play in the NHL. The Bruins have since been trying to have the ELC voided but have run into some complications. Perhaps the most disturbing thing about the whole ordeal is that the Bruins never even spoke to the family of Isaiah Meyer-Crothers before offering Miller his ELC.

On Sunday, Joni Meyer-Crothers, the mother of Isaiah, posted a photo on her personal Twitter account of Isaiah with Maple Leafs forward Wayne Simmonds, who had apparently spent the evening with Isaiah for his 21st birthday. As cool as that must have been for Isaiah, the gift didn't end there. Simmonds is also taking Meyer-Crothers to the Leafs/Red Wings game tonight as his guest.

Simmonds, an active member with the Hockey Diversity Alliance, has done a lot for the hockey community to help with diversity and inclusion. This time around, however, Simmonds has chosen to use his platform and his influence to help someone outside of the hockey community. Kudos to Simmonds for showing kindness and empathy to Isaiah, whom Miller chose to victimize.
