Wife of Blue Jackets' goalie says his family is receiving death threats

Elvis Merzlikins, the Blue Jackets' current starting goalie while Joonas Korpisalo recovers from injury, has struggled to start the season behind a weak team. Today his wife revealed that their family has received death threats from Blue Jackets fans. Merzlikins' wife took to Instagram to share some of the threats that have been uttered.

Some of the messages that were sent to her included "you, your kid and your husband should die," and "your husband is trash," She also revealed that people are saying Merzlikins has mental issues, which she confirmed are not accurate.

Merzlikins' wife is so afraid of these threats that she and Elvis decided their son won't be attending any games for the foreseeable future, just as a safety precaution. It's absolutely appalling that fans have the audacity to bring families into a sport. What happens on the ice should stay on the ice and should never involve the family of a player. Full stop.
