Maple Leafs winger William Nylander has a chip on his shoulder after the Leafs were eliminated in the first round for the sixth year in a row earlier this month. It has led to a much more intense and focused Nylander for Team Sweden at the World Championships in Finland.

On Thursday, Nylander and Sweden drew a very tough opponent in Team Canada. Fortunately for the Swedes, they were up to the task and Nylander continued his hot streak, scoring his third goal in three games for Sweden thanks to a forced turnover that led to this breakaway opportunity. Nylander made no mistake.

Hopefully it's this version of Nylander who shows up to training camp this fall. He's playing with a better pace, is more physically engaged and is converting on his chances at a high rate, all while playing a significant role for Sweden.

At just 26 years old, Nylander is currently in the prime of his career, but there's still some room for improvement, which is good news for the Leafs and bad news for the other 31 NHL teams. He's already shown significant growth year over year, culminating in a career season in 2021-22. The only thing left now is for the Leafs to get past the first round and from there, the sky is the limit.
