We all know what the Leafs' fanbase can be like when things aren't going according to plan. Sometimes we can be a volatile fanbase, but who can blame us? Here we are, over half a century without a Stanley Cup win and nearly 2 decades without winning a single playoff round. We're getting antsy. We're in dire need of some postseason success and we're tired of being the butt end of more jokes than the Arizona Coyotes, who can't even sell out a 5,000-seat college arena.

The temperature has been very high surrounding this Leafs team, who are currently on a 4-game losing skid, owning a concerning 4-4-2 record after amassing a franchise-high 115 points last year. It's an important year for Dubas, Keefe and even President Brendan Shanahan. So naturally, when William Nylander was out walking his dogs this week and was approached by fans to talk about the disappointing start to the season, the interactions were overwhelmingly negative, right? Wrong.

Nylander spoke with the media on Wednesday, ahead of the team's first home game since October 20th. Among the things he touched on were his interactions with the fans this week, despite the Leafs sitting 7th in the Atlantic Division standings. He revealed that his interactions with the fans were surprisingly pleasant, with most people understanding that it's very early in the season and that, in their minds, the wins are coming.

"I took a walk yesterday with my dogs and I ran into a couple of fans and everybody was positive. Everybody knows we are capable of playing better."

-Nylander on how the fans are feeling during the Leafs' current 4-game losing streak

Colour me shocked. Just yesterday, a disgruntled fan went at GM Kyle Dubas through Dubas' own grandmother's personal Twitter account. To be honest, I'm a little surprised that Nylander's run-ins with the fans were as positive as they were. We all know this team needs to start winning games and that the effort hasn't been good enough. Leafs fans are usually an opinionated bunch, so with Willy coming away from his interactions with fans completely unscathed, maybe the sky isn't falling after all.

Hopefully the boys can get back into the win column tonight against the Flyers, who are coming off of an OT loss last night in New York.
