Voit, a diminutive forward who can play both center and wing, has been ripping it up for the Sarnia Sting this season, having notched 6 goals and 18 assists for a total of 24 points in just 12 games and playing at a 2.00 point-per-game pace. It's absurd how well he's played. So when the OHL released their "Performers of the Month" honours on Wednesday, it was surprising to see Voit left off the list.
We all know that just because you score the most points, it doesn't necessarily make you the best player. We also know that Othmann and Voit are stylistically very different. This just seems like one of those situations though where Othmann had the higher draft stock and is certainly the higher profile player after his performance with the gold medal winning Canadian World Junior team in August, which means more notoriety. For anyone who has watched them both play this year, it's tough to argue that Voit hasn't been the more dynamic player, even if just by a hair.
