Yet another Leafs prospect selected to represent his country at the Olympic Games next month
The Toronto Maple Leafs already have 2019 4th round pick Nick Abruzzese and 2021 2nd round pick Matthew Knies heading to Beijing next month to represent USA Hockey at the 2022 Olympic Games, and undrafted defenseman Kristians Rubins representing the Latvian team, but it appears as though the Leafs will also have a representative for another nation as well.
Per Tre Kronor's official Twitter account, 2018 6th round pick Pontus Holmberg has been named to Sweden's Olympic Men's Hockey club and will be headed to Beijing as well.
Holmberg, 22, is enjoying a breakout season for Vaxjo HC in Sweden's top men's league, notching 10 goals and 28 points in 33 games this season, also posting a season-high 36 penalty minutes in the process.
