The Leafs' loss would be the Oilers gain as Hyman had a career year this season in 76 games notching 27 goals and 27 assists for a total of 54 points. Hyman has shown from his time in Toronto that he can be placed anywhere in the lineup, proving just that when he transitioned over to Edmonton, playing primarily with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, but also taking spot duty on the 3rd line and playing on the penalty kill and the power play.
Coming into the playoffs Zach Hyman has made noise showing why he was brought to Edmonton, showcasing his grit and grinding in the corners, using his puck retrieval skills much the same way that he did with the Leafs. Hyman also has seven goals and two assists in 11 playoff games.
With Edmonton up 3-1 in their series against the Calgary Flames the Oilers can finish off the series tomorrow night and you can guarantee Hyman will be a key contributor to help get the Oilers into the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2006.
One of the important things Hyman has shown is that he has been worth every penny the Oilers committed to him last offseason and you can bet we will hear a lot about him as the Oilers' playoff run continues. It's unfortunate that he couldn't do this as a Leaf, but Hyman was always a good soldier and deserves all of the success he's worked for in Edmonton.
