The Toronto Marlies are off to a strong start, winning back-to-back games against the San Diego Gulls. One player eager to join the NHL lineup had a tremendous performance on Sunday; Alex Nylander.
Nylander scored two goals in Sunday's game, bringing his total to three points in his first two outings. One of his goals was an absolute snipe, as noted by Rink Rat Report on X:
Despite receiving other offers for NHL contracts, Nylander chose to sign a one-year AHL deal with the Maple Leafs. He believes strongly in the organization and was impressed by the top-notch facilities, as well as the fact that his brother, William Nylander, is a superstar for the Maple Leafs and now his roommate.
Last season, Nylander showed his potential in a small sample size with the Columbus Blue Jackets, scoring 11 goals in 23 games and proving he could certainly be an NHL player. If this stint in Toronto doesn't pan out, it could be his last chance at making it in the NHL. However, he has made a strong push to start the season.
It's also worth noting that Logan Shaw has also impressed for the Marlies, contributing three assists in the win and totaling five assists in his first two games.
Look for Nylander and other Marlies to continue making an impression as they aim for a call-up to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
