"Ever since Lou Lamoriello was told that he would no longer be the Toronto Maple Leafs general manager, there's been plenty of speculation regarding his future. As of right now, the plan for him is to take on a senior advisory role with the Leafs, however there's been plenty of speculation that off the record he's not happy with the decision. NHL insider Darren Dreger stated recently that he believed Lou wanted to hold onto the GM position for at least one more year and it was far from his choice to step down. Now the top NHL insider, Bob McKenzie, chimed in on the situation and believes Lou is likely gone as well. «There is no doubt Lou Lamoriello wants to be a GM…There has been heavy talk right from the get go in regards to Lamoriello and the Islanders. I'd be the least surprised guy if he ends up on Long Island.»
When it comes to Lou and the Islanders, the dots are definitely there to connect. The Islanders currently have Lou's son Chris as assistant general manager, Chris Terreri who played and worked for Lou as their goaltending coach and former Devils center Scott Gomez as an assistant coach. Whether current Islanders GM Garth Snow is on the hot seat or not doesn't matter as Lou has a great relationship with him.
